Linfield have announced that striker John Robertson and Northern Ireland Under-21 international Jack Scott have left the club by “mutual consent”.
A one-line club statement on Monday said this was with “immediate effect”.
Defender Scott, 21, played at youth level for Linfield and returned during the summer following a three-year stint at Wolves.
Scottish-born forward Robertson, 22, joined Linfield in July from Edinburgh City.
The duo were not involved in Saturday’s 5-1 Irish Premiership win over Loughgall which extended the club’s lead at the top of the table to eight points.
When contacted about the statement, a Linfield spokesman said that the club wouldn’t be making any further comment on the matter.
Scott played in nine of Linfield’s 14 Irish Premiership games this season and scored both goals in the 2-0 win at Loughgall on 23 September.
Robertson was involved in seven of Linfield’s league games but hadn’t managed a goal in any of those matches.
The club is also investigating an incident during its Irish Premiership match against Loughgall at Windsor Park on Saturday in which a visiting player was allegedly racially abused.
Loughgall’s Pablo Andrade was reported to have received abuse from a Linfield supporter after the Villagers’ equaliser at Windsor Park.
The alleged abuse came from the South Stand, where Linfield fans are housed, and the club said it was treating the matter seriously and had launched “an internal investigation”.
